Visiting

SIRCET welcomes volunteers from all over NZ and the world. If you are interested in volunteering with us during a visit to Stewart Island, please get in touch with us.

Here are some things our recent visiting volunteers have said about their time with SIRCET:

“It just ‘felt right’ like a great opportunity to see/live/experience a part of NZ not many people get to…Plus the learnings…about birds, plants, pests etc. Denise is a brilliant boss. She leads by example, has heaps of patience, demonstrates and explains thoroughly and always ensured my safety was not compromised. Her knowledge and passion for the bush and nature was infectious and thanks to her I have learned more than I could ever have imagined.”

Gael Gordon, from Auckland

“Learnt a lot about SIRCET work and Stewart Island in general. Denise did a great job at making sure we knew what to do and were kept busy. We have also learnt a lot about native flora and fauna and threats to the bush’s natural state.”

Laura and Emily Cooper, from Manchester, UK

“A lot of hard work goes into pest control – keep up the good work.”

Abbey McMillan, from Wellington

“[Heard about volunteering through] the fantastic information shack…Denise’s support and the way she found jobs to suit my skills and experience, as well as answer any question, anytime, made it [an] informative safe, secure experience and also lots of fun. Thank you.”

Jonathan Burke, from Wales, UK

“What a great project – so important to get the local community involved. I hope the project goes from strength to strength…Denise was excellent. Patient, understanding and very Health and Safety conscious. I was made to feel very welcome and given a variety of tasks to undertake – making my time very enjoyable and varied. Keep up the excellent work.”

Sarah Wood, from England
